AGUADA, PR – The Puerto Rico Islanders will have to serve once again as a road team for the 2018 season due to the damages to the potential stadium caused by the Hurricane Maria. The team has announced that Jose “Kikin” Morales will serve as one of the teams assistant coaches, clubhouse manager and assistant to the General Manager.

Kikin has served the last 7 years as the clubhouse manager and bat boy for the Mayaguez Indios of the Puerto Rico Roberto Clemente Winter League. The Mayaguez Indios are the New York Yankees of the Puerto Rico Roberto Clemente Winter League as they have the most titles in the Island as well as the most Serie Del Caribe wins in history. Names like Carlos Correa, Ivan Rodriguez, Juan Gonzalez, Roberto Alomar, Carlos Baerga, Ruben Sierra and Rafael Palmeiro have played during the off season.

“We met Kikin during the recent visit to the spring PRIBL program. The guy is just someone you must have in an organization. He is loved in the towns around the island and loved for his hard work and dedication to the game. He will bring a lot of help and assistance to the Puerto Rico Islanders and will be a huge part of the teams success not only this year but in the years to come in Puerto Rico.” – VP Jerry Gonzalez

Kikin will spend the entire 2018 season as the Puerto Rico Islanders assistant, clubhouse manager and assistant to the General Manager and Field Manager.

“I’m grateful to have a guy like Kikin in this league. This gentleman is a professional and a strong voice in Puerto Rico and we respect that. He deserves to be a part of this which is what he wants” – CEO Eddie Gonzalez

Kikin was introduced to Empire League associates during their recent visit to the Puerto Rico Instructional League Program in which Kikin served as the organizations assistant coach, trainer and clubhouse manager. The Empire League saw his efforts and what he represents not only to the cities in Puerto Rico but to the love of the game and the league did not hesitate to bring him on board.
