GEORGETOWN, DE – The Puerto Rico Islanders have big plans to lift up the island and are confident that their draft picks can make that happen this season.
The Islanders started off really strong in the draft selecting World Baseball Classic Pitcher Wendell Floranus with their first pick. Wendell was a 2017 EPBL Champion and posted Pitcher of the year like numbers and is coming off a Carribean Winter League season.
They also drafted the 2017 EPBL MVP left handed Power hitter JJ Bissell, Right handed knuckleballer from Japan in Ryo Sanogawa as well as former Japanese Minor leaguer, Shota Sugawara. Along those picks are many strong athletes with incredible potential.
“This has been one of the most talented overall camps in the Empire Leagues history. There’s a lot of talent here and guys with bright futures. The Islanders have a lot of them!” VP Jerry Gonzalez
Manager Tony Rodriguez and Assistant Coach and GM Carlos Nunez came to camp with a strategy and so far it looks to be paying off with strong draft selections.
With the Islanders finalizing a home in Puerto Rico, they will be traveling to Puerto Rico to begin the season against the New York Bucks who also had a strong draft.
