RINCON, PR – The Puerto Rico Islanders took game one from the Aguada Explorers in tonights season opening match up in Puerto Rico.
Wendell Floranus started the game off striking out the side for the Islanders in which he would end up striking out 11 Explorers allowing 3 earned runs through 6 innings earning the victory .
Robert Brown tossed a solid game of his own although allowing 6 runs to score he went for 6 innings striking out 7 Islanders.
The Explorers improvements have been one to keep an eye out for later in the series, but they are still missing a few pieces to the puzzle. However, continuing to perform for the Explorers is OF Ryan Rivera who had two knocks including a double and Terrell Thompson who had 2 singles with 2 runs batted in.
The Islanders exploded for 13 runs most coming late in the game with a total of 12 hits. Angel Perez had a big game for the Islanders going 4 for 5 with 5 RBIs. Shota Sugawara continues his hitting with 2 hits of his own. Joining him with 2 hits were Angel Garced and recently returning to the Islanders Juan Avila.
The Islanders improve to (6-3) in the season while the Explorers drop to (1-9).
Both teams are set to meet again tomorrow night at 6:15pm in Rincon, Puerto Rico for game two of the series. Japanese knuckleballer Ryo Sanogawa is set to start for the Islanders. No Starter has been named for the Explorers.
